What is a Spiritual Tour?

  Home

Spiritual tours, also known as sacred journeys or pilgrimages, give you the opportunity for a very different kind of holiday, where you move at a soulful pace that nurtures the body, mind and spirit. No ticking off the places on a list- this kind of travel emphasizes being, not doing and achieving. It's about truly connecting with sacred places, not just looking at them and perhaps hearing a bit of history. And by connecting more deeply with the earth, we connect more deeply with ourselves. It's life-changing!

We can do this by ourselves or with a friend, but the power and joy of the experience is magnified by going on a spiritual group tour. There is so much we can learn from others - and have fun!

A spiritual tour includes some regular spiritual practice ie meditation, sounding/singing, yoga, drumming, and time out for integrating the powerful experiences. It's like a workshop on wheels/wings/feet. Unlike a retreat, where we cocoon away in a private place, a spiritual tour involves interaction with others on very different types of journeys. This is good practice for grounding our spiritual reality in the material world.
Spiritual tours can be flexible adventures, with occasional itinerary changes and spontaneous happenings. It all works out perfectly, with time to shed the layers we create in our everyday lives.

Essence of the Centre tours focus on Central Australia with its wondrous sacred sites like Uluru, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas), Atila (Mt Conner), Mpulungkinya (Palm Valley). The sacred Red Centre of Australia has a vastness and timelessness that draws people to journey here.

We respect the indigenous traditions, and also open to new ways of interacting with the many energies and dimensions of the landscape. Our tours offer experiences with indigenous people, usually camping overnight. This gives us some perspective on their deep connection with the land. And helps us to create a bridge with indigenous culture. Due to the priority that indigenous people place on their cultural obligations, sometimes a meeting will have to be cancelled at late notice, so we need to go with the flow.

Our sacred journeys have an extra focus of balancing disturbed energies in the landscape that can be encountered, so this is a way to give back to Earth & Spirit. We use Essence of the Centre essences to support the healing aspect of the tours, both with the Earth-work and for the mind/body spirit balance of individuals in the group.

And we like to create a group journal with drawings and/or writing from each person. A copy is made available for everyone afterwards to build on the energy of the journey.
On camping tours, the fellow travelers usually have a swag of interesting vegetarian or meat-based recipes to share with the group. Great food- a bonus! Don't worry if you like your creature comforts, though. We are offering at least one tour a year with hotel and cabin accommodation.

In short, a spiritual tour is a profound, joyful, healing, transforming way to visit beautiful places in a spiritually focussed group. A total mind/ body/ spirit celebration of life. And with an Essence of the Centre sacred journey, you benefit from the combination of Ron's many enthusiastic years as a tour operator and his passionate connection with Central Australia, and Barbara's years of meditation, singing and healing, including the beautiful essences, and her recently gained experience of tour driving/guiding.
